Kirkē Kefalea is a Professor of Comparative Religious Literature in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the School of Theology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her doctoral dissertation Das Land der Griechen: Studien zur Griechenlandrezeption in der modernen europäischen Erzählliteratur (The Land of the Greeks: Studies on the Reception of Greece in Modern European Narrative Literature) was published in 1995 by the German publishing house Königshausen & Neumann. She has published the books: Wrath of God: The Greek Versions of Bürger's Eleonora (Nefeli 1999), Do Not Touch Me! The Image of Magdalene in Modern Greek Poetry (Indiktos 2004, Gutenberg 2015), Transformations of the Moon: Anthology of Poems about the Moon (Gutenberg 2013), Strong as Death is Love. The Song of Songs in Modern Greek Literature (Gutenberg 2015), Landscapes of the Soul. Studies on Modern Literature (Armos 2018). She has been involved in book editing and literary translations. Her research fields include, among others: a) The reception of Greece in modern European literature, b) the relationship between religion and literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, c) the impact of biblical texts on modern foreign and modern Greek literature.
