The book consists of eight chapters. The first three chapters, “Modern Phonetics,” “Phonetic Categories,” and “Phonetic Categorization,” provide a general overview of phonetics, analyzing its fundamental sub-concepts and contemporary themes. The fourth chapter, “The Phonetic System of Greek,” offers a detailed account of Greek phonetic distinctions and categories. The next three chapters, “Voice Production,” “Voice Acoustics,” and “Voice Perception,” address the corresponding core branches of phonetics. The eighth chapter, “Phonetic Structure of Greek,” presents the phonetics of Greek with illustrative examples and analyses. The book’s objective is to promote Experimental Linguistics, specifically interdisciplinary phonetics, the relationship of phonetics with other linguistic levels, and experimental methodology. The book is edited by the International Society of Experimental Linguistics.
Antonis Botinis
is a professor of phonetics and the president of the International Society of Experimental Linguistics (ExLing Society). He has taught and conducted research at universities in Europe and America, such as Lund University in Sweden, Aix-en-Provence University in France, University of Wisconsin-Madison in the USA, and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His written work includes articles in journals, conferences, collective volumes, and monographs, with a research and educational focus on the phonetics of Greek. In his book 'Phonetics of Greek', he examines synchronic and diachronic studies in Greek and comparative cross-linguistic prosody.
